DESCRIPTION:The Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs will co-sponsor a pub
 lic talk by Francisco Duarte Lopes\, Ambassador of Portugal to the United 
 States. \n\nFrancisco Duarte Lopes has been serving as Portugal’s Ambass
 ador to the U.S. since 2022. A career foreign service officer\, he served 
 as the Permanent Representative of Portugal to the UN\, at Portugal’s Mi
 nistry of Foreign Affairs in Lisbon\, as Director-General for Foreign Poli
 cy\, European Affairs\, and the Portuguese Representative to the EU. Ambas
 sador Duarte Lopes holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of Lisbon. H
 e began his professional service as an attaché in the Foreign Ministry’
 s Consular Section in 1989\, before being posted to Pakistan from 1993 to 
 1995.\n\nThis event is co-sponsored by the Council on Latin American & Ibe
 rian Studies\, the Yale Department of Spanish and Portuguese\, and the Eur
 opean Studies Council.
