The day of this event—February 24, 2026—marks the fourth anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This war that has now lasted longer for Moscow than World War II, an event which Russian President Vladimir Putin recently commemorated with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the 80th anniversary of its ending. The two witnessed a military parade and demonstrated their solidarity to the Western world. At this fireside chat, Professor Joseph Torigian of American University, author of the book The Party's Interests Come First, and Professor Odd Arne Westad will discuss what the Sino-Russian relationship means for the war against Ukraine and the future of global order.
